Monthly See Care Share Safety Update

Here you can find our Monthly See Care Share Updates.  Each month we will have several topics which you can share with your teams along with the supporting Safety Conversation.  These will be based on the incident trends, time of the year and any updates to policies or procedures. 

Please ensure that you display these on the appropriate notice boards within your unit and record the communication of the Safety Conversation on the relevant training record cards.  You can find more Safety Conversations on the dedicated page of the HSE Website.

In this month’s edition, the headline for this month is all about Linney, there are a range of updated documents, materials, and signage available to order via the Linney My Store webpage. Majority are focused on the Food Safety Management system however there are several updates across the HSE section of the store. Why not start the new year a review of the documents, materials, and signage, remove old and replace with the most up to date information.

Our Safety Focus this month is on preventing slips, trips and falls in the workplace. At this time of year, we always see an increase of these types of incidents however in the last two months the increase has been higher than normal. Please review the controls you have in place for your team and unit and be sure to refresh everyone on the Safety Conversation provided on Preventing Slips Trips and Falls.

Our Take Home Safety topic this month is about keeping you and your loved ones safe when walking in the hours of darkness whilst alone. As it is staying and getting darker for longer, we would encourage you to read the tips provided and share these with your teams as we want to ensure that everyone is safe both in and out of the workplace where we can.

In this month’s edition, the headline for this month is around ensuring you are conducting your own self assessment of your HSE Standards in your unit every Quarter using the Quarterly HSE Record. This can be done manually in the Log Book, by downloading from HSE Website or the preferred method via the Origami Mobile App.

Our Safety Focus this month is on preventing Foreign Body Incidents, which have seen a significant rise in the last few months. There is a Safety Share with some top tips on preventing them and a Poster to be displayed in your Dry Stores area to encourage persons to remove safety seals and tabs before taking to the food preparation area.

Our Take Home Safety topic this month is on winter driving and ensuring you are prepared for the change in weather coming to the UK and Ireland as we enter the winter period.

In this month’s edition, the main focus for this month is Display Screen Equipment and updated risk assessments and e-learning module. These new risk assessments and e-learning are vital to all team members who use Display Screen Equipment to ensure that we have the correct DSE set-up and training. To assist in raising awareness we have shared a poster on setting up your DSE Workstation.  We are also refocusing on the Safety Behaviours and See Care Share in this months update along with a Safety Conversation.

Our Take Home Safety topic this month is on World Mental Health Day which falls on the 10th October every year. This day is a great way to share a conversation about mental health. This year's theme, chosen by the World Federation of Mental Health, is “it’s time to prioritize mental health in the workplace.” This mantra emphasizes the vital need to address mental wellness within our work environments.

In this month’s edition, the headline for this month is around the key control measures for ensuring we reduce the risk of spread of Monkey Pox infection, whilst the overall risk to the UK is classed as low by the NHS it is good for all colleagues to be aware of infection control and we have implemented some additional guidance to raise awareness.  Our Safety Focus this month is on reporting of Food Safety Incidents, to ensure we have sight of all incidents no matter how minor you may believe it to be at a unit level, it is important we know what has happened to share learnings and then ensure best practice. Linked to that, the best way of limiting reporting is to not have incidents in the first place, so we have a Safety Conversation of General Food Safety Controls as a reminder as we come to the end of this financial reporting year.

Our Take Home Safety topic this month is on keeping children safe, they are the future of our planet and our business and in a similar ethos to See Care Share, we need to nurture them, help develop them by supporting and educating them on general hazards and help to prevent them occurring.

August See Care Share Monthly Update

In this month’s edition, the main focus for this month will be around food safety standards and in particular Foreign Body incidents. We are seeing an increased number of food safety incidents both substantiated and unsubstantiated, these incidents can result in discomfort and injury to our customers so it is vital that maintain our high food safety standards and controls in this area. Our Take Home Safety topic this month is on Cycle Safety, despite cycle lanes and greater awareness of cyclists there is continued increase of cycle related incidents on the roads.  In this month’s update we share 5 tips for safer cycling for all of those that are out cycling. 

Finally there is an introduction to the latest element of the WSMS, which is for Building and Grounds Maintenance Services, this may not be applicable to all of our business but is a great additional resource.

Our Safety Focus this month is on working in high temperatures, particularly with the recent increase in daily temperatures in the UK and Ireland and ensuring our team avoid heat exhaustion. Our Take Home Safety topic this month is on barbecue safety, with the warmer weather on its way I am sure many of you will be hoping to enjoy a barbecue at the weekend so there are some handy tips that you can share with your family and friends.
